Goldfinch on
Ironweed
Ironweed is a common native plant with dazzling purple flowers. In Zach's new release, Goldfinch on Ironweed, the purple blossoms compliment the canary yellow of an American goldfinch and a tiger swallowtail butterfly. The American, or Eastern, goldfinch (Carduelis tristis) is the state bird of Iowa, New Jersey, and Washington. The Tiger Swallowtail butterfly (Papilio glaucas) was named for its appearance. Its distinctive black striping resembles a tiger's pattern, and its wing shape is similar to that of a swallow bird, with extensions dropping off the bottom of the wing.
